What will it look like – service

March 27, 2009

A part of the service that I noticed is ignored on many bridal websites is the wedding ceremony, itself.

Sure, there are ideas for invitations, RSVP cards, flowers, cakes, dresses, and OMG pomanders!!! Little detail is given to what is happening in the service. It’s not a huge deal if you’re Roman Catholic or Orthodox. Everything is planned out for you. Even in the Anglican church, it can be pretty easily taken care of for you. What does a Disciples of Christ groom and a Charismatic Ortho-Anglican do for their wedding. Well, the bride stresses out for months, and the groom tells her no one will care. She stresses out a little bit more, but then realizes the groom is correct.

So much thought has gone into the service. Matthew has had much say because we are both concerned that the wedding is a worship service and not a pagent of me. There will be Eucharist, by intinction. There will be congragational hymns instead of “special music.” There is no throwing of rice and no unity candle. It will be liturgical, it will be protestant, and it will be a little charismatic.

Yeah, no one but the bride and groom will be happy with it. Frak.

Remember one thing, it is your wedding day- you are going to marry your life partner on that day- your memories will always be special for that alone. be calm and keep things real.
As for a photographer. I didn’t have one. I asked good friends to take photos before and after the ceremony and only one friend to take a photo of me coming down the aisle with a digital camera so you print only what you want and like and no surprises. I would prefer everyones attention not be distracted by whirring cameras.
after the ceremony we went to the picture people studio and got formal photos of the wedding party- (you could do this at any point) and again you pay only for what you want. and one less person on the guest list
